5 Superheroes Who Inspire Us More Than The Avengers

April 28, 2020

In 1995, Marvel created National Superhero Day to honor the superheroes who defend us against the bad guys in comics and movies, and those who defend us from evils in real life – like COVID-19.

But, our heroes don’t wear capes or shoot webs, they’re just ordinary people doing extraordinary work to make a difference.

So, the Avengers are really cool and all, but here’s 5 Superhero teams who inspire us way more!

1. Medical Professionals – BRG & MBP

We’ve had the pleasure of working with the teams at Baton Rouge General and Mary Bird Perkins over the years. And, so we know first hand that the Baton Rouge medical community is extremely dedicated to their service. They’re our superheroes on the frontlines, working tirelessly to provide high levels of care and compassion in this uneasy time.

Right now, medical professionals need our help to end the first wave of the COVID-19 virus. Of course, we need to follow health and safety guidelines, but there are safe ways for us to give and support our healthcare community.

You can donate the following to your local healthcare provider:

  • Masks (N95 masks, Procedure masks, Surgical masks, Cloth masks, or make your own!)
  • Face shields
  • Goggles
  • Isolation gowns
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Wipes (Bleach wipes, Germicidal wipes)
  • Gloves

You can give blood – WAFB put together a handy list of available locations: Give Blood Here You can donate money to directly support your hospital of choice! Or you can send a thoughtful message to encourage those on the frontlines! Support your superheroes!

2. Nonprofits

Despite canceled or postponed fundraising events, local nonprofits are full steam ahead, serving their communities and absolutely crushing it. They’re providing food, entertainment, and artistic activities to inspire kids at home. So, consider how you might support them!

3. Teachers and Educators

We would be remiss if our teachers and educators were not on this list. Distance learning is no walk in the park, but teachers and educators are going above and beyond to engage their students and encourage them through this difficult time, even offering telehealth style therapy for children with autism and communication challenges.

We love working with the team at Great Minds, and they’re offering Knowledge on the Go, a FREE daily instruction video lessons for English language arts (Grades K–8), math (Grades K–12), and science (Grades 3–5) as well as weekly resources that feature early readers called Geodes® (Grades K–2), plus written materials for math (Grades K–12). Our team at Launch was proud to support the science video curriculum through production, and we hope you’ll take advantage of these amazing resources.

4. CAA

We’re animal people, if you didn’t know. And, we’re so grateful for organizations like Companion Animal Alliance who have been taking care of animals in need during this weird time. They’ve offered resources, such as an emergency preparedness plan, to take care of pets if owners need to be hospitalized.

In addition, they’re facilitating foster-care for animals. When will you have more time at home to devote to a new furry friend? Consider adoption and learn more about the process here!

5. Moms and Dads

With Mother’s Day coming up and Father’s Day right around the corner, we need to recognize the moms and dads who are working their tails off during this pandemic. They’re the real, unsung superheroes.

Because nobody knows just what a “crazy, uncertain time” this is, unless they’ve got kids hopping in the background of a zoom meeting asking for another snack and missing an article or two of clothing. We’re right there with you.

We’ll be sharing our Mother’s Day gift guide soon! Stay tuned…

Is there a superhero we didn’t mention? Contact us with your ideas! We’d love to share your stories!
