Support a Good Cause While You Holiday Shop: 9 Companies We Like

November 14, 2019

It’s the end of the year, and that means things are hectic. With stress and deadlines hitting you from every angle, you don’t need to worry about searching for the perfect gif for your sister-in-law or your staff. So, we made a special holiday gift guide, just for you – but not just any old gift-list.

It seems like there are socially conscious companies popping up everywhere ready to give back, plant a tree, empower women, and generally make the world a better place. Now, you can do a little extra good when you give. We’ve got you covered with our curated list of 9 socially-conscious, mission driven organizations for all your gifting needs from family to client to friend.

1. Twice as Warm

Mission: “Our mission is to spread warmth to people and communities around the world, and we’ve since expanded our efforts beyond the ‘wear one, give one’ model to new and innovative ways to advance our mission.”

Since it’s mid-November and we’re already hitting record lows across the country, we think it’s probably a great idea to stock up on new winter wear with this amazing company.  You’ll definitely feel ‘twice as warm’ wearing any of these quality products.

Our Pick: Burgundy Denim Rugby Scarf

(This makes us look like we went to Hogwarts without being too obvious about it.)

2. Out of Print

Mission: “Since 2010, Out of Print’s mission has been to spread the joy of reading by transforming literary classics into bookish apparel and accessories. With every purchase, you help us to donate books and support literacy programs around the world.”

Calling all bookworms! Celebrate your love of the written word with a collection of literary inspired products from a company that has donated over 3 million books to communities in need. From toys to mugs to jewelry, there’s definitely something for everyone. And, perhaps an opportunity to spark a love of reading in a little one!

Our Pick: Little Women Puzzle

(Obviously, we’ve pre-ordered our tickets for the new Little Women premiere, and we will spend Christmas Eve around the fire getting too excited for the movie. Or at least our communication manager will.)

3. WeWOOD

Mission: “You buy a watch. We plant a tree.”

WeWOOD watches are made of 100% wood, nontoxic, free of chemicals, and super lightweight.  Stop adding to your screen time using your phone to check the time and get one of these beauties.  Stylish and eco-friendly, what’s not to like? (P.S. You can also get them engraved with a special message.)

Our Pick: DELLIA

(Minimal and fun, the two tone wood gives it an interesting element.)

4. FEED

Mission: “We create good products that help feed children around the world.”

FEED has provided over 107,532,896 meals to date to children in schools around the world and in America through giving partners.  They work with artisans from Kenya to India to create functional, beautiful products from bags to bowls.

Our Pick: Artisan Serving Board

(For all the charcuterie board goodness this holiday season.)

Yum! I'm gettin' hungry.

5. Happy Blankie

Mission: “Our mission is to spread as much happiness as humanly possible. When you buy a Happy Blankie®, we give you a second blankie to give away to somebody in need of happiness and we let you choose who to give it to. We call this “One to Love, One to Give.””

While a Happy Blankie is a classic gift, it’s also a way to engage with your community and connect with those who may be in need of extra support this holiday season.  Not to mention, the fabric blend of these blankets has been known to help children with Sensory Processing Disorder.

Our Pick: Blizzard the Polar Bear

(I mean, how adorable is that.)

6. Shop (RED)

Mission: “(RED) partners with the world’s biggest brands to create products and experiences that work to end HIV/AIDS. When you buy (RED), you are a powerful force in the fight against AIDS. 100% of all money contributed by (RED) partners goes to fund HIV/AIDS health and community programs through the Global Fund. Ultimately, your purchase is saving lives.”

If you’re not a fan of the suggested brands thus far, Amazon’s partnership with RED makes giving back while gifting pretty simple.  You’ve just got to shop RED (literally buying red-colored items in the designated list).

Our Pick: Alexander Del Rossa Flannel Pajamas

(Matching family pjs are hilarious and so much fun. You can’t convince us otherwise.)

Pajamas. Their time has come.

7. Love Your Melon

Mission: “Love Your Melon is an apparel brand dedicated to giving a hat to every child battling cancer and supporting the fight against pediatric cancer.”

Love Your Melon donates 50 percent of net profit (after taxes) to create therapeutic experiences and fund charitable programming initiatives for children and families battling cancer. It’s not just beanies though, they’ve got everything from scarves to blankets to dog sweaters.

Our Pick: Black Cuffed Beanie

(Because sometimes classic is best.)

8. NoonDay Collection

Mission: “To make a difference in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities, we partner with Artisan Businesses that share our passion for building a flourishing world. We develop these businesses through fair trade, empowering them to grow sustainably and to create dignified jobs for people who need them.”

Noonday Collection is a seriously cool enterprise empowering women in business around the world, and your only challenge is choosing just one of these unique items for a vibrant and memorable Christmas gift.

Our Pick: Celestia Wall Hanging

(Is it Christmas decor or all year decor? We say, both.)

9. Project 7

Mission: “We are a specialty gum and candy brand dedicated to bringing great flavor back into your day while at the same time giving back to 7 areas of need. All of our products are proudly made here in America. We partner with nonprofits making impacts both here in America and abroad. Great Tasting and World Changing.”

Hello, stocking stuffers! Clean chewing gum? Gourmet gummies? Buy a pack and stuff them in your kiddos’ stockings or leave them on the desk for that one guy at work who never brushes his teeth.

Our Pick: First Kiss gum

(Flirty name that has helped plant over 4.5 million trees!)
