Local Cinematographer wins big at New Orleans Film Project

September 8, 2012

(Baton Rouge, LA) – Launch Media’s Wes Kennison was part of a team that earned a Best Cinematography Award for their work at the 2012 New Orleans 48 Hour Film Project. Kennison is credited as Director of Photography on the short film entitled, “Friends of the Saturn Bar”.

The short film was written, shot, edited, and scored in just 48 hours. The contestants are given a character, a prop and a line of dialogue to include in their movie. They are also given a genre into which the movie must fall. 48 hours later, the movie must be complete. The team of which Kennison was a part, Patois, was given the genre of time travel.

“The most challenging part was to emerge from the whirlwind day of shooting with well-composed shots that didn’t look like they happened in a ‘run and gun’ environment,” he said. “Something that helped the overall aesthetic was incorporating techniques into the shooting workflow that audiences are used to seeing on the big screen, so we did a lot of focus pulls, sliding shots, and even a little bit of jib work here and there.”

Kennison is honored to win the award and bring it home to Baton Rouge. “We pulled it off as a team and I really can’t say enough about the group of professionals that made the whole thing come together,” he said. “It was such a positive experience and I cannot wait to do it again.”
